Whether you are at the beginning of your home renovating journey or near the finishing line of an architectural extension , you are bound to come face to face with an inevitable mountain of options that can scare the hoo ha out of you. Although these small decisions may come with an initial ray of excitement, they can eventually evolve into a rather overwhelming task that may seem unapproachable. But before we talk any more, let’s map out a step by step plan before moving onto the nitty gritty aspect of this task.

Step 1

First and foremost, create your wishlist list. Start by brainstorming a variety of spaces that are dedicated to a specific activity. Then, slowly think about the sheer purpose of those spaces, what do you want people to think, or feel when they enter them? Also establish some small specifics of the room, such as the activities that are dedicated to that space, purpose, how many people does it have to seat, exit and entry traffic points and so on.

Step 2

Secondly, within this realm of spaces, begin to consider a multi functional room. As everyone already knows, the year of 2020 has invited for a serious increase in essentially switching from an ‘office’ job, to a home job, also including the children’s switch from school to ‘zooming’. By keeping this mind, there then needs to be a space that can serve both as a study, a bedroom and a chillax room.
Of course not every house has an immense amount of space to divide each singular activity into a seperate room, so here comes in the need for a multifunctional and purpose room that offers family members the ability to relax, be productive or get down to business.

Step 3

Next comes storage. The dreaded word of storage can often come with connotations of clutter, mess, chaos and so on. However, by reconsidering the traditional methods of storage, such as external and clunky cabinets, and transitioning to a more contemporary adoption, the word storage will no longer equate to mess, but rather functionality. This could be as easy as:
  • integrating storage into the wall

  • under the stairs

  • multifunctional furniture pieces, such as shelves within bed frames

  • beds that transform into desks

  • whatever comes to your imagination

If its subtle practicality allows for you to hoard that dress from the 80s and those expensive shoes you never wear, then do it.

Step 4

Finally, all this discussion about ‘transforming’ your space might bring to mind those glossy magazines that you pretend to like, but really don’t and whatever the media tells you. Their pages are bombarded with  supposedly trendy styles of homes that you internally feel obligated to replicate.
Don’t be scared to express your quirkiness by showing off funky, unique and colorful pieces that are a total reflection of your personality. In essence, your home doesn’t need to mirror the pages of those glossy magazines, but rather you and your amazing, authentic self.
